On March 12, 1889 at the annual town meeting, a committee was appointed to consider the publication of a town history.  It was agreed upon unanimously that the selectmen would then appoint a committee responsible for the town history.  On April 15, 1891, the selectmen appointed 3 men to the committee.  On August 10, 1891, this committee unanimously voted to offer the position of preparing the history to George A. Ramsdell (pictured above).    Mr. Ramsdell accepted the position.  His only charge would be for money spent in preparing the history.
